Meet Myles Ackerson, Myles is a 22 year old college student, resident of Hopewell Township and an active member of our department. In high school at HVCHS, Myles played lacrosse, ice hockey and football and received the Mark Clements award from his coaches for his leadership attributes. After high school, Myles attended Union County Community College where he obtained an associates in science degree. Myles now currently goes to Stockton University where he is working towards a business major with a concentration in management and also plays for the lacrosse team. Outside of the firehouse, Myles is an avid outdoorsman.
Myles has been a member of our department since 2012. His entire family has been involved with our firehouse for many years and have contributed countless hours of service. Myles’ father, Mike Ackerson Sr., a past lieutenant and now current president of our company inspired his son to join. Myles, a third generation firefighter stated “my inspirations for joining Pennington Fire Company came from both my father and my grand father. Both of them were heavily involved in the fire service, my father here at 51 and my great grandfather as a chief in Trenton.” Mike Ackerson Sr. was awarded Firefighter of the Year in 2001. Just last year, Myles carried on the legacy and was given the same award.
Myles has continued to be an active member since joining. Following his graduation from the Firefighter 1 course, Myles wanted to further his skill level in the world of emergency services and obtained his EMT-B certification for NJ.
At a recent house fire, Myles successfully rescued a cat during his search of the second floor. Myles and another member of the Rescue 51 crew removed the cat from the structure. His actions along with those of on scene EMS personnel resulted in the safe return of the animal to its owners.
